Biography

Dr. Gersh has practiced medicine in Irvine since 1981, and has always been a forward looking visionary regarding the practice of medicine. Recognizing the many alarming trends in the delivery of health care, she took an alternative path, founding the Integrative Medical Group of Irvine and becoming its medical director. Dr. Gersh received her bachelor’s degree in history from Princeton University and her medical degree from USC School of Medicine. She was awarded numerous honors in medical school, graduating in the top 5% of her class, receiving the top award from the American Medical Women’s Association, and earning membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Following medical school, Dr. Gersh completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology internship and residency at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Los Angeles, where she won the CREOG Award for the top scoring resident each year. The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology granted her diplomate status (board certification) in 1984. Dr. Gersh is a believer in the importance of lifelong education for physicians and has recently completed a 2-year Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona Medical School, under the directorship of Dr. Andrew Weil. She has become a fervent advocate for the philosophy of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Gersh practices Integrative Gynecology, seeking natural ways for women to maintain and regain their health, but utilizing the most cutting-edge surgical procedures when necessary. She understands how all of the body’s systems affect the reproductive organs and comprehends the intricate interplay of hormones and neurotransmitters and their effects on female systems. Dr. Gersh is expert in all areas of gynecologic and women’s health care. As an expert in women’s health care, Dr. Gersh deals with endometriosis, uterine fibroids, menstrual cramps, polycystic ovarian syndrome, sexual medicine, vaginal infections, incontinence, vulvodynia, interstitial cystitis, menstrual dysfunctions, pelvic pain, infertility, breast problems, adolescent and pediatric gynecology, and menopausal medicine and bio-identical hormones. Since her residency, Dr. Gersh has been recognized for her leadership and contributions to the medical community. She was named a “Physician of Excellence” by the Orange County Medical Association, together with Orange Coast Magazine, for each of the last seven years. She was named the “Most Valuable Outside Faculty” at USC/Keck School of Medicine, where she is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and has been awarded numerous others honors, including being named a TopDoc from Talk of the Town, a Super Doctor by Los Angeles Magazine, and a preferred doctor by Angie’s List. Dr. Gersh is very active with many professional medical organizations and works closely with the Orange County Medical Association and California Medical Association, trying to maintain a patient focus for health care in California. She is also very involved with medical charitable organizations, providing necessary surgery and education for homeless women and the uninsured indigent of the area. She is a frequent lecturer for both community events and for physicians for their continuing medical education conferences. Dr. Gersh and her husband have raised four wonderful children and they are now proud grandparents to one adorable little girl. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, traveling and reading, and yoga. She is trained in Meditation and Breath Work and practices daily.
